Privacy Policy

1. Who we are and what this policy covers

Din is a decibel and sound meter application published by BaruzoTech (“we”, “us”). This policy explains how the Din mobile app for iOS and Android handles information, and it also covers this website.

It is written to be read, not to be survived. If anything here is unclear, email us at info@baruzotech.ae and we will answer plainly.

Your use of Din is also governed by our Terms of Service, which cover what the app's readings are and are not suitable for.

2. How Din uses your microphone

Din measures how loud your surroundings are. To do that it needs to listen — but listening and recording are not the same thing, and the distinction is the whole basis of this policy.

When the meter is running, your device's operating system hands Din a stream of raw audio samples. Din converts each short block of samples into a single number — a sound pressure level in decibels — and then discards the samples. The audio exists only in temporary memory, for a fraction of a second, on your device.

• Audio is never written to a file on your device.
• Audio is never transmitted to us or to anyone else.
• Audio is never used to train machine learning models.
• Din does not perform speech recognition and has no interest in the content of what it hears — only in how loud it is.

When you stop the meter or leave the app, microphone access ends. Both iOS and Android display a system indicator whenever an app is using the microphone, so you can always verify this for yourself.

3. What Din stores on your device

When you save a recording, Din stores a small amount of data locally so the session appears in your History:

• the name you gave the session;
• the date, time and duration;
• the lowest, average and highest decibel readings observed during the session;
• your accumulated daily sound dose, and any calibration offset or preferences you have set.

All of this lives in the app's private storage area on your device. It is not synced, not backed up to our servers, and not visible to us. Deleting a recording in the app removes it. Uninstalling Din removes all of it.

If you have enabled your platform's own device backup (iCloud Backup or Android Backup), your operating system may include Din's local data in that backup. That backup is between you and Apple or Google, governed by their terms — we have no access to it.

4. What we collect about you

Nothing. Din has no servers that receive your data, no account system and no third-party SDKs that collect information. Set out in full:

Because we collect nothing, there is no data of yours for us to sell, share, rent or disclose — and we do not. We have never sold personal information and have no mechanism by which we could.

5. Permissions Din requests

Din requests exactly one permission: microphone access (RECORD_AUDIO on Android, NSMicrophoneUsageDescription on iOS). Without it the app cannot measure sound, which is its only function.

You can revoke this permission at any time in your device settings. Din will continue to open, but the meter will not read.

Din does not request network access for measurement. Measuring works fully offline, in aeroplane mode, with no connection of any kind.

6. Sharing, export and other apps

Din can produce a readable sound report or a CSV export of a saved session. This only ever happens when you ask for it.

When you tap share, your operating system presents its own share sheet, and you choose the destination — email, messaging, notes, cloud storage, or anywhere else. At the moment you make that choice, the exported data leaves Din and enters an app we do not control. From that point the receiving app's privacy policy governs, not ours.

Exported files contain the decibel figures, session name, timestamp and duration. They never contain audio.

7. The app stores

You obtain Din through the Apple App Store or Google Play. Those platforms are operated by Apple and Google respectively, and they collect their own data about downloads and purchases under their own policies — we do not control this and it happens before Din ever runs.

Apple and Google provide us with aggregate, anonymised reports — for example, how many times Din was installed in a given country during a given week. These reports contain no information capable of identifying you, and we cannot use them to single anyone out.

8. Children’s privacy

Din is a general-purpose utility and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone, of any age — which necessarily includes children.

We note that the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 treats anyone under eighteen as a child and requires verifiable parental consent before processing their personal data. Because Din processes no personal data at all, there is nothing for a parent to consent to and no children's data for us to hold. The same reasoning applies under the US Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and the UK Age Appropriate Design Code.

9. Your rights under data protection law

Data protection law gives you rights over personal data that an organisation holds about you — typically the right to access it, correct it, delete it, restrict or object to its processing, and to receive a copy in portable form.

We hold no personal data about you, so there is nothing for us to disclose, correct, export or erase. Your Din data sits on your own device, entirely under your control: you can view it in History, delete individual sessions, or remove all of it by uninstalling the app.

This position is the same whichever framework applies to you — including the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 and the Information Technology Act, 2000 in India; the UK and EU General Data Protection Regulation; and the California Consumer Privacy Act as amended by the CPRA. If you believe we hold data about you and want to exercise a right, write to info@baruzotech.ae and we will respond within thirty days.

If you are in the EU or UK and are dissatisfied with our response, you may lodge a complaint with your national supervisory authority. In India, you may approach the Data Protection Board once it is constituted under the DPDP Act.

10. Security

The strongest security property a product can have is not to hold your data in the first place, and that is the property Din has. There is no server to breach, no database of readings, and no account credentials to steal.

Data stored locally is protected by your device's own security — your passcode, biometrics and platform-level app sandboxing. We recommend keeping a device lock enabled and your operating system up to date.

11. International use

Din works the same way everywhere. Because no data is transmitted off your device, there is no international transfer of personal data to assess, no adequacy decision required and no standard contractual clauses needed. Wherever you are, your readings stay with you.

12. Changes to this policy

If we change how Din handles information, we will update this page and change the effective date at the top. If a future version of Din ever introduces something that collects data — analytics, crash reporting, or any optional connected feature — we will say so here plainly and prominently before it ships, and update our Apple privacy labels and Google Play Data Safety declaration to match. We will not quietly weaken this policy.
